Qantas is Australia’s largest airline and one of the oldest carriers in the world. It has an expansive network over Oceania and is considered one of the most reliable airlines today. The company recently announced that it would be adding new routes to India and South Korea in a bid to bolster tourism and bring people back to New South Wales.
In their statement, Qantas claimed that their new routes will be the first non-stop flights between southern India and Australia. It will be easier and faster for travellers to visit fun tourist attractions like Sydney’s famous Bondi Beach or see its beautiful Opera House.
Benefits: The planned flights will cut down travel time by as much as three hours, making them a better alternative to the current fastest route between Bengaluru and Sydney. Qantas hopes that the reduced travel time and the ease of a direct flight would tempt Indian travellers to visit New South Wales, which would help revive tourism from its pandemic-induced slump.
The flights are scheduled to begin on the 14 of September and people can start booking tickets already. The return tickets are set to start at around Rs. 78,000. The service will run four days a week and Qantas will use its A330 widebody aircraft for it.
IndiGo is India’s largest and one of its most trusted airlines. It has great connectivity and operates regular services to big and small cities throughout the country. Qantas plans to enter into a codeshare agreement with IndiGo to make travel smoother for its passengers.
IndiGo will offer services from airports like New Delhi, Bengaluru, and Singapore. This will allow a passenger to seamlessly move from one carrier to another while in transit. IndiGo connects to all major cities in India and even serves a few smaller ones like Goa, Pune, and more.
All in all, passengers taking the Qantas flight to New Delhi, Bengaluru, or Singapore would connect directly to more than 50 different cities and more than 4000 destinations. Qantas Frequent Flyers will also benefit and IndiGo will recognize Frequent Flyer points, priority check-ins, priority baggage, and additional baggage allowances, which can help people save some money on the trip.
Australia and India recently signed a new trade agreement, which would boost both tourism and business between the two countries. This agreement has been in response to growing trade activities between Australia and India. Qantas has read the layout of the land and hopes that the new flight routes can deepen this relationship.
The demand for flights between India and Australia has been steadily increasing and the Qantas CEO, Alan Joyce, anticipates it will continue to grow.
