For these fares, you can choose any one from the following – 

  • 1 standard piece of 7kgs with maximum dimensions of 56cm long, 36 cm wide, and 23cm deep, OR
  • 2 small pieces of 7 kgs in total with maximum dimensions of 48 cm long, 34 cm wide, and 23 cm deep, OR
  • 1 standard piece and one suit pack with a maximum weight of 7 kgs in total. The maximum dimensions for a standard piece should not exceed 56 cm long, 36 cm wide, and 23 cm deep, and for a suit pack, it should not exceed 114 cm tall, 60 cm wide, and 11 cm deep. 
  • PLUS: 1 personal item like a laptop, handbag, pocketbook, or purse. 

Business Class Fare, Velocity Gold & Platinum Members

If you have purchased any of these fares, you can select from the following carry-on baggage category –

  • 1 standard piece of 7kgs with maximum dimensions of 56cm long, 36 cm wide, and 23cm deep, OR
  • 2 small pieces of 7 kgs each (14 kgs in total) with maximum dimensions of 48 cm long, 34 cm wide, and 23 cm deep, OR
  • 1 standard piece and one suit pack with a maximum weight of 7 kgs each (14 kgs in total). The maximum dimensions for a standard piece – 56 cm long, 36 cm wide, and 23 cm deep, and for a suit pack – 114 cm tall, 60 cm wide, and 11 cm deep. 
  • PLUS: 1 personal item like a laptop, handbag, pocketbook, or purse.

Virgin Checked Baggage Allowance – Domestic & International

All flyers travelling on Virgin Australia flights are allocated a checked baggage allowance, except travellers who have purchased the Lite fare. When travelling on domestic or international flights, passengers will have the following checked baggage allowances corresponding to the travel class and Velocity membership level –

  • Make sure that your checked bags must not exceed the total liner dimensions (length + width + height) 140cm (55 inches). 
  • Velocity complimentary baggage allowance is based on status at the time of travel, not the time of reserving tickets. 
  • Additional baggage allowances for Velocity Silver, Gold, and Platinum members vary depending on the operating airline (partner airlines).
  • Multiple items held together will not be accepted as a single piece of baggage. Extra baggage fees may apply or the same. 
  • Checked baggage that is not travelling with a flyer will not be accepted by the airline. Any unaccompanied baggage must be sent as cargo.

Virgin Infant Baggage Allowance 

In any domestic and international Virgin Australia flight, infants and children are entitled to carry special items as checked baggage free of charge. If you are flying with an infant, you are allowed to check in a 23 kg bag as part of your special item baggage allowance on Virgin flights. Please note that there is no baggage allowance if you book Economy Lite fare. 

  • Infant (not occupying own seat): 3 special infant items*
  • Infant (occupying own seat): 3 special infant items
  • Child: 2 special equipment items**

*Special infant items – Pram/stroller, portable cot, car seat, baby capsule, and 1 x 23 kg checked bag. If you are travelling with an infant and purchased an Economy Lite fare, then the infant special item of 1 checked bag will be excluded as a ‘special infant item’ that can be carried without charge.

Virgin Australia Overweight Baggage Limit & Fees

Checked baggage that exceeds the weight limit set by the airline will attract overweight baggage fees. Extra baggage will only be accepted on the basis of available cargo space. Fees will be charged at the airport on the day of departure for each additional piece, per one-way journey (including formal connecting flights) as mentioned below – 

Domestic flights – An overweight baggage fee of $50 will be charged for each piece of baggage weighing over 23 kg (maximum 32 kg). 

International flights – Below mentioned overweight baggage fee will be charged per piece weighing more than 23 kg (maximum 32 kg).

Purchase Virgin Australia Additional Baggage – Fees & Limit

Passengers travelling on Virgin Australia domestic and international flights, such as Sydney to Delhi flights, can pre-purchase an allowance online, or through the airline Contact Centre. Passengers can also purchase additional bags at the airport, but there will be a higher fee for the same as compared to pre-purchase. 

Pre-purchased baggage may only be purchased if you are travelling on Virgin Australia ticketed and operated flight. For tickets or connecting flights operated by other airlines, additional baggage may only be purchased at the airport on the day of departure.

An additional 2 bags may be purchased online or via the Guest Contact Centre. If you need more than 2 additional bags, you may purchase up to 9 bags at the airport, subject to availability. Oversized & Fragile Items Accepted On Virgin Australia Flights
