All flyers travelling on Virgin Australia flights are allocated a checked baggage allowance, except travellers who have purchased the Lite fare. In any domestic and international Virgin Australia flight, infants and children are entitled to carry special items as checked baggage free of charge. If you are flying with an infant, you are allowed to check in a 23 kg bag as part of your special item baggage allowance on Virgin flights. Please note that there is no baggage allowance if you book Economy Lite fare.
*Special infant items – Pram/stroller, portable cot, car seat, baby capsule, and 1 x 23 kg checked bag. If you are travelling with an infant and purchased an Economy Lite fare, then the infant special item of 1 checked bag will be excluded as a ‘special infant item’ that can be carried without charge.

Checked baggage that exceeds the weight limit set by the airline will attract overweight baggage fees. Extra baggage will only be accepted on the basis of available cargo space. Fees will be charged at the airport on the day of departure for each additional piece, per one-way journey (including formal connecting flights) as mentioned below –

Passengers travelling on Virgin Australia domestic and international flights, such as Sydney to Delhi flights, can pre-purchase an allowance online, or through the airline Contact Centre. Passengers can also purchase additional bags at the airport, but there will be a higher fee for the same as compared to pre-purchase.
Pre-purchased baggage may only be purchased if you are travelling on Virgin Australia ticketed and operated flight. For tickets or connecting flights operated by other airlines, additional baggage may only be purchased at the airport on the day of departure.
An additional 2 bags may be purchased online or via the Guest Contact Centre. If you need more than 2 additional bags, you may purchase up to 9 bags at the airport, subject to availability.
