Planning to travel with SriLankan Airlines? It’s crucial to understand the specific rules, regulations, and timing requirements outlined in SriLankan Airlines check in policy before heading to the airport. Knowing and following these guidelines ensures a smooth boarding experience. Keep in mind that check-in policies can vary among airlines, so it’s important to familiarize yourself with the airline’s specific requirements.
SriLankan Airlines offers passengers different ways to check in. Travellers can choose to either self-check-in and print their tickets or use the online check in and airport check-in options for added convenience. Let’s know the available choices in the SriLankan check-in policy –
Passengers have the option to check in online at the official website of SriLankan Airlines from 24 hours up to 2 hours before the scheduled departure time. However, Online Check-in is not available for flights from Seychelles and for certain passengers, including unaccompanied minors, pregnant mothers, wheelchair passengers, and those requiring medical or special assistance.
Boarding passes can be printed, emailed, or saved on a mobile phone. It’s possible to use one phone for all family members’ boarding passes.
Tip – If you’re just bringing hand luggage, make sure to get to the departure gate at least 45 minutes before your flight. For those with checked baggage, it’s necessary to be at the airport at least 90 minutes before your scheduled departure time.
Passengers can also complete the check-in process via the SriLankan Airlines mobile app, starting 24 hours before and up to 2 hours prior to the scheduled departure time. Upon online check-in, passengers have the option to print their boarding pass, receive it via email, or save it on their mobile phones.
Similar to the SriLanan Airlines online check in option, mobile Check-in is also not applicable for flights departing from Seychelles and is restricted for certain passengers like unaccompanied minors, pregnant women, wheelchair users, and those requiring medical or special assistance.
Note – At specific airports, such as Abu Dhabi, all airports in India, Kuala Lumpur, Maldives (MLE and GAN), Dhaka, Jakarta, Kuwait, Muscat, China (except Guangzhou), Jeddah, Lahore, and Singapore, only boarding passes issued at the airport check-in counter are accepted. Therefore, passengers must collect their boarding pass at the counter, even if they have used SriLankan Airlines web/mobile check in option.
Passengers can use self-service check-in kiosks by entering their ticket number, booking reference, or FlySmiles membership number. Alternatively, they can simply scan the barcode on their electronic ticket. SriLankan Airlines has stationed staff near the kiosks to assist customers needing help with the check-in process.
This option allows passengers to choose or change their seats, input frequent flyer details, scan their passports for passenger information, and print boarding passes. After using a kiosk for check-in, passengers carrying only hand luggage can proceed directly to immigration. For those with checked baggage, there’s a Bag Drop Counter a few steps away from the kiosks to drop off their bags.
For those who prefer assistance during check-in, SriLankan Airlines offers airport check-in services. This option is available for passengers starting from 4 hours before departure for domestic flights and from 90 minutes up to 45 minutes before departure for international flights. Passengers need to provide the required documents as instructed while interacting with the airline staff. Once the process is completed, the airline executive will provide the boarding pass, and the passenger is ready to proceed with their flight.
Check-in times can vary at each airport, so it’s a good idea to check and stick to the specified deadlines. Generally, SriLankan Airlines check-in counters around the world open 3 hours before your flight. All check-in counters, whether for Economy or Business Class, close 1 hour before departure. It’s important to note that SriLankan Airlines has the right to cancel your reservation if you miss the check-in deadline.
For a smooth airport experience, there are two check-in counters exclusively for SriLankan Airlines Business Class passengers.
Boarding Time – To avoid any issues, make sure to reach the boarding gate at least 30 minutes before your flight. SriLankan Airlines won’t be responsible for any losses or expenses incurred if you don’t meet the check-in and boarding deadlines.
